Jobs Found in a Roofing Company

Having the job title of roofer does not mean that all you do is put roofs on homes and businesses. Many jobs fall under this classification, from estimating what the job will cost to installing the materials to make the roof. Some of the different roofer specialist jobs can include shingle installers, tile removers, and tar applicators. On some roofs made of rubber, one very tiring job is pea stone spreading. If it an eco-friendly green roof, you have to put sod over the waterproof membrane that is placed there.

One roofer specialist job that is very important is doing the work of a job estimator. Many times, they also have the title of a crew foreman. This person is the one that will meet with a prospective client and give them an estimate for the cost of a new roof. If the estimate quoted is too expensive, the job could go to another roofing company with a lower bid. If they give a bid that is too low it could cause the company money or anger the customer if the final bill is higher than what the bid was. When talking to the prospective client, this roofing specialist must understand the prices of the materials needed to install the roof, warranty information, colors that the client can choose from, and the different features this particular roof offers. This information is important so they can give the client the correct information and calculate their bid for the job.

On older homes, the existing roof may need to be removed first so the roof specialists for this job are called the tear off crew. They will not only remove old tiles, metal roofing materials, and shingles but the material found under them. This is generally plywood and has to be taken off to expose the rafter. Once this is done, the crew with more skills in carpentry will rebuild the roof. Once they have reconstructed the roof it will be re-covered with felt paper. The next layer of the roof will be the metal sheets, shingles, or tiles.

Another roofing Specialist job is a rubber roofer. In this job category, an expert crew will remove the pea stone used to keep the roof down. Once the pea stone has been removed completely they will lift off the roof underneath and put it in a trailer to be recycled. Other roofing specialists jobs include fitters and applicators that cut and glue rubber sheets to the roof. They have to make sure that the rubber fits firmly to all of the features of the roof, which can include antennas, chimneys, and vents. Once this job is completed, the tar crew will spread hot tar on the seams of the rubber roof.
